What is the best print server to use for windows server?

Question by mattmo91: What is the best print server to use for windows server?
I have a laser printer that I want to connect to our server to make it so everybody can print to it from Terminal Services. I have looked at several print servers made by linksys, d-link, etc but everyone says they have problems with setup. Can anyone suggest a good, reliable print server? Thanks!

Without knowing the model of printer you are using, I would suggest trying to determine if the printer has an internal print server add-on you can buy. In the world of HP printers, these are usually branded as JetDirect print servers. They do cost more, but in my experience these work the best and have the fastest throughput. I haven’t found the print servers you mention to be difficult to set up; the problem with them is they sometimes lock up and they may limit print speed on larger print jobs.

Depending on what O/S you are using you would have to cluster them. With clustering both systems will be addressed with the same IP address from clients but the cluster service will route the request to the current active server.

I’ve given you a reference below to read about.

Q&A: How does a new server on a network that already has a server get assigned a new ip address?

Question by Kerry K: How does a new server on a network that already has a server get assigned a new ip address?
I am at a school that has a network server. We are going to add another server and I was wondering where the ip address for the new server will come from. Thanks for your help.

It will receive an IP address via the existing DHCP server, if you have one on the network.

However, you usually want servers to have static IP addresses; that is, an IP address that does not change. In this case, you need to find an empty IP address in your network range and manually assign it to the new server. Make sure you have all the important information you’ll need… unused IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and your DNS and WINS server IP addresses. Manually enter all that information into your network properties.

I usually like to set aside a block of addresses dedicated for things like servers and routers. Let’s say your network uses the common addressing scheme of 192.168.1.xxx (where xxx is a three-digit number between 1 and 254). I will usually exclude the addresses 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.10 from the DHCP and will statically assign all my servers an IP from that excluded range.

If you can’t or don’t have an excluded range already set up on your DHCP server then you’ll at least want to make sure you add a reservation (for Windows DHCP) or an exclusion (for a Cisco DHCP) to your existing range to make sure nothing else ever tries to “claim” your new server’s IP address.

Once you have statically assigned your new server and properly configured your existing DHCP server you should be set up and ready to go!

Good luck!

Q&A: Who uses SQL, What do they use SQL for in the world, When is it appropriate to use SQL database?

Question by hello: Who uses SQL, What do they use SQL for in the world, When is it appropriate to use SQL database?
Where do you find SQL database servers and how is it implemented? Why do we use SQL vs. Access Query builder or some other form of database system, pros and cons of using SQL?

I know there are a lot of questions, but i would like to learn more about SQL – can someone please guide me about this information?

Best answer:

Answer by Big Ed
SQL stands for Standard Query Language, it is an ANSI standard language that is the basis for most of the large relational databases. It’s a relatively small subset of the implmentations available from people like Oracle, Microsoft (SQLServer) and MySQL. They are all different but generally, if you know one, learning the other is fairly easy.

The question is not when do you use a SQL database but when do you move to a relational database. My general rule of thumb is that smaller database systems like Access are fine for personal use but when you start writing applications for multiple people, you need to move to a better class of database and that would be a relational database.

If you’re going to be a database programmer, learn SQL. You can’t go too far wrong that way.

What is isa server which is installed on server and what is its relation with microsoft firewall client?

Question by alireza.nasibi: What is isa server which is installed on server and what is its relation with microsoft firewall client?
What is isa server which is installed on server and what is its relation with microsoft firewall client installed on clients’ computers? Is it a controlling system? How can the server control client? Can server watch clients’ desktop by these two softwares installed?

Best answer:

Answer by Sir Paddles returns
This is taken from the Microsoft website.

Firewall Client for ISA Server can be optionally installed on client computers protected by Microsoft ISA Server. Firewall Client for ISA Server provides enhanced security, application support, and access control for client computers. It provides authentication for Winsock applications that use TCP and UDP, supports complex secondary protocols, and supplies user and application information to the ISA Server logs.

When a client computer running Firewall Client for ISA Server makes a request, the destination is evaluated by the Firewall Client software, and external requests are directed to the ISA Server computer for handling. No specific routing infrastructure is required. Firewall Client sends user information transparently with each request, enabling you to create a firewall policy on the ISA Server computer with rules that use the authentication credentials presented by the client. ISA Server allows you to configure automatic discovery for Firewall client computers, using a WPAD entry in DNS or DHCP to obtain correct Web proxy settings for clients, depending on their location.

Perhaps you are assigning a negative number to your index, or you told the program to access an index which isn’t there, test the program by printing the index numbers the program is being assigned, and find out where your variables are in the vector, good luck!

Best answer:

Answer by sankar4you2
If you want to install as workgroup, you can do it wih xp os. If you want to create domain you must need a windows server OS like MS windows 2000/2003 server.
Configure the IP settings for the machines & make it as work group / client for domain.
